It has been 19 months and 2 tax seasons since Deb and I  have ventured away with the trailer. The decision to go was almost spur of the moment, my brother thought it would be nice to see us and they had come here most recently. The trip was planned within a 30 day time frame and the decision to depart June 19 was to not miss any Hospice meetings.
The morning of the 19th came and we departed promptly at 6:11 am and got 40 miles down the road when I remembered I had not closed the garage door. Fortunately a friend had an opener as was kind enough to save me from turning around. The goal the first day was Newberry Springs, CA just east of Barstow. We cruised smoothly through Sacramento and we were just north of Bakersfield at lunch time and stopped in a neat little city park in Oildale where we snacked on egg salad and watermelon. Back on the road we easily made Newberry Springs about 3:30 where we stopped for the night at Newberry Mountain RV Park. Really clean park with reasonable facilities but the wifi was down. We complain in the Oaks about internet service but all there is out here is satellite and it sucks. The park had 2 duck ponds including Mom and a few young ones plus a pool. would not hesitate to go back.

Day 2 would find us traveling from Newberry Springs to Gallup, NM. Similar distance as day 1 just over 500 miles. Arizona was hot and dry and the gas prices varied wildly. I'll remember to not go past Kingman without gassing up at just over 2.00. Other than paying more for gas than I should the day was smooth. Similar style lunch stop and arrived at our chosen park for the night about 4:00pm. Another terrific choice with a very military USA theme, in fact active duty military stay FREE. Excellent facilities and very friendly staff. Tomorrow we make Santa Fe, NM where we will stop for 3 nights.

  1. Told Dennis at dinner I expected you to make NM tonight. Have fun with friends in beautiful Santa Fe! Thinking of you on Saturday Movie Night, something you two got us started on.
